The increased surface area spreads the load of the rifle and prevents accidental side to side movement or angular cant whilst in hold.
 
The barricade stop can still be engaged to give a positive forwards position.
 
A pair of nylon ball catches are used alongside the RRS R-LOCK holes for a position location whilst an additional nylon-tipped grub screw can be used to secure the device, permanently.
